Tom Sellin is our VP Business Development here at King Solutions. Here’s what he had to say about his life with and outside of the King Solutions team.
1. Introduce yourself to our readers.
I am always on the lookout for someone I can connect with, someone that may have an interest in working together to see how we can help each other. How can we work together to create mutual benefit?
2. What is your role and how long have you been with King?
My role at King is to do anything I can to help our company be successful. I focus primarily on new Business Development, and strengthening the bonds we have with existing customers.
3. What is your background that led you to working at King?
My first job was in manufacturing in the mailing industry. I was so fortunate to work for a company well regarded as a “great training ground” for someone seeking long term success. I remained there for 28 years serving in a wide variety of roles, and an eventual career in operations management.
I learned early about the value of building and maintaining strong relationships, and the value of true teamwork. Along the way, I met Mike Patterson from King Companies, and we worked together to develop a very collaborative and successful mail transportation program for the organization.
4. What does an average day look like for you?
I spend much of my time with clients, travelling to and from customer locations, and connecting with prospective customers. I also work with our amazing teams at King to ensure the success of our programs, and to exceed the expectations of our customers. I am constantly focused on continuous improvement and truly understanding our customers’ perspectives.
5. What do you love about working at King?
The positive and progressive culture of King Solutions. Coworkers care about each other, and every customer is highly valued by the organization.
6. What are your hobbies outside of work?
I am an occasional musician and entertainer, and love to perform when I can. I am fortunate to enjoy performing occasionally with some of my grandchildren as well. I also love to play basketball when I can, and get in a few rounds of golf: my goals in both is to enjoy spending time with others, and that no one gets hurt.
7. What special talents do you have?
I am a musician, entertainer, coach and cheerleader.
8. Where do you see the logistics industry as a whole in 5 years? 10 years?
I see the industry becoming much more stressed over the next few years, with the threats of tight capacity actually becoming reality, and as companies struggle with labor costs and availability. The use of 3rd-party resources I expect to likely become higher in demand, as transportation capacity tightens and as companies also struggle to secure enough labor to support their growing businesses.
